In the US there are probably more options, such as: Walmart, CVS, etc. For instance, Amazon, which is the Company I would probably choose to work for if I could lock my summer internship at this moment, is among the top hiring firms at both schools. Mo2men & greenzie: Concerning retail placement, I feel both schools will be solid. So, I guess he could vouch for me if necessary. Although I have a former direct supervisor (he wrote one of my rec letters), who his an INSEAD alum. To your other point, my only network in the US/EU would be the one that the schools would offer me, for instance access to Brazilian alums. It is important to say that another reason for me to get my MBA is to become an innovative leader. Though, at this moment, I am kind of leaning towards the opportunity to work for a large retailer, especially at a place where I could learn best practices of the discretionary retail industry to eventually adapt them and introduce them to my family's business. Regarding MBB recruiting opportunities at INSEAD, I am pretty confident these firms have solid on-campus recruitment and if I really decide consulting is what I want to do, I wouldn't mind recruiting for their offices in Brazil. My point is that for me the MBA is not just a means to an end, I am definitely looking forward to explore the campus vibe, interact with the community, network with alumni, and enjoy the perks of live in the US/EU. Guys, thank you all for your replies!! Well, it seems to be a tie thus far, with a slight advantage towards Tuck! Let me answer some questions to see if someone else jumps in to share his thoughts.īb: I am aware that getting my MBA degree wont be relaxing, it is a huge investment on myself so I plan to work really hard, haha! What I meant was that in a 2Y MBA program I will have more time to enjoy the MBA experience (although I know I will make the time to enjoy it too in a 1Y program). Do you have anything in either Europe or US? Folks you can leverage or people who could recommend or vouch for you? That would potentially be a big enough reason to attend Insead rather Tuck. A lot of the success in your MBA depends on your personal network. ![]() You will be sending resumes out in October. Insead would definitely leave fewer options for "self discovery" and "soul searching". ![]() I think of you have time, you are not feeling pressure to get back into the work force, and your work experience is not 10+ years, a 2-year tuck program is a good fit.Īt the same time I am not sure that I can say it would be relaxing doing the MBA - it is hard work either way. Would be tough without French to work in France so that leaves UK or Portugal realistically? You are correct that being in Europe for school will probably put you there or Asia for work. I am not super familiar with Insead, in part because they keep their stats and details close to their chest, but do you feel they have the right on campus recruiting events? And how much MBB is there in Europe hired locally? It seems you have done a good analysis of the situation at both schools. Language - I know the courses will be in English and this is an amazing opportunity to learn a new language, but it is tough living in a country that you don't speak the language - I will be in the Fontainebleau Campus and speak 0 French Not in the US - which would probably make recruiting to the US "almost impossible" if I decide that I want to work there, although I don't necessarily want to work in the US No possibility to do a summer internship to explore the careers I want to - Would need to recruit after the MBA My wife has Italian citizenship - which could help her find a job if she wants to do it (this is not her plan though) ġ year - this is a big one - I feel like the program is going to be intense and I would not be able to enjoy the experience as much as I would in a 2Y program Good family business network and programs Outstanding reputation and awesome brand Weather - although I wouldn't say this is too much of a problem Strong Community - loved the people and the Hanover NH location īrand slightly less known in Brazil compared to other top10 schools or INSEAD Good personal fit - prefer living in the US than in EU ![]() ![]() So far this is my pros/cons list on each School: In the end I know I will follow my heart, but I am interested to know what would you guys do if you were in my shoes and why? My plan is to recruit for a big retailer (such as Amazon) or Consulting (MBB).Īcademically I feel that both Schools are similar (general management focused) and professionally I know both will open doors. Post-MBA plan: Ultimately I want to return to my family's business in Brazil (discretionary retail), but if opportunities arise I would like to work abroad (either USA or EU) for a while. Got accepted in this two great Schools and would appreciate your insights.
